The Role of the PTA

  • Membership

The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) at Bard High School Early College Manhattan (BHSECM) extends free membership to all families of current students, faculty, and staff.

  • The Entity

The PTA of Bard High School Early College Manhattan, Inc. is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Our Tax ID Number is 81-0612857. All contributions are tax deductible in accordance with the IRS rules and regulations.

  • Oversight

We are governed by our bylaws and the NYC Department of Education Regulation A-660. We aim to update and pass new bylaws in the fall. You can help by joining the bylaws committee! Let us know if you’re interested.

  • Mission

The PTA advocates for current students, parents, faculty, and staff. We create community to preserve open lines of communication and foster the exchange of information.

Most importantly, we raise money so the school can sustain its high level of academic rigor and culture of enrichment and excellence for our children.

  • Committees

We are an association of members and we welcome all voices and contributions. Volunteer to serve on Events, Hospitality, Fundraising, Grantwriting, Merch, Comms, or just take on a short-term project like Bylaws, Audit, or Budget. Many hands make light work 😊

  • The Budget

The money raised by the PTA is allocated to school expenses according to the annual budget, to be presented by the June meeting and approved by a vote of the general membership. The budget is presented again at the September meeting, and any amendments can be put to a vote. Want to get into the details? Join the audit committee!

  • A Quorum

At least one executive board member in attendance on school premises is required for a hybrid meeting; a quorum for either in-person or online meetings requires at least two executive board members and six parents.

In the absence of a quorum, the PTA cannot vote on any business.

    Attendance matters!

  • What is the SLT?

The School Leadership Team meets on monthly Mondays at 5pm to develop the annual Comprehensive Education Plan by group consensus, including the Principal, the UFT Chapter Leader and representatives, the PTA President and elected parents, a Bard rep, and student reps.

  • So what does the PTA fund?
